What to do When It Rains During Your Outdoor Party

When you have an outdoor party planned, one thing that you know is that you’re at the mercy of the weather. So it’s always a good idea to have some plans in place in case it pours. Below are some tips that you can use to save your outdoor party if it rains.

Move It to the Rec Room

If you have a rec room in your house, it’s a great place that you can move your party if it starts to rain. Put a sheet at the entrance to the room so guests are able to remove their shoes and wipe off their wet feet. Ask a few people who are strong to help with carrying down chairs, food, tables, and put some music on.

Go to the Garage

Got a garage? This is a great choice for a just in case plan. Even if the weathermen are reporting clear skies ahead, it doesn’t hurt to tidy up your garage. Throw some drop sheets, old blankets or tarps over the areas that are nasty and be sure you’ve got enough room for chairs and tables. This way, if the weathermen are wrong, you’re all set.

Trap the Water with Tarps

Buy some twine and some big tarps. If it starts getting cloudy, tie the tarp to posts or trees over your main areas. Using this method, you’ll be able to remain outside and stay dry. But make sure you’re keeping an eye out for any lightning. If you see them, everyone should go inside. There is no reason to take a chance.

Have Some Fun Games Planned

Along with any outdoor activities that are planned, it’s a good idea to have some ideas in case you have to go inside. Definition or trivia games are a great choice. If you have little ones that are at the party, bring out some movies that are safe for the kids to watch.

Campfire Tales

If your home has a fireplace, it’s a good idea to get firewood prior to the party. This way if it rains you’re able to help your guests get dry and warm.

Cover Up the Food

If it’s not raining hard and it’s just a passing shower, it’s a good idea if you have some tarps so that you can use them for covering over the beverage and food tables. This way, when it stops, you can go back out and continue your party.

Have a Plan

Before your party, have a meeting and figure out who’s in charge of what in case it rains. Each person should have a job and this way you won’t panic if it rains. You simply do your jobs and the party can go on as planned, just in a different spot.

Just because it rains, it doesn’t mean that the party has to be over. Use these tips and spring into action if the skies start to open. Then you can have a lot of fun and the party can go on.
